To be an artist is a way of life that we have been blessed with. The world needs us now more than ever. We all have so much to say through our art and it needs to shared. If it were not for the artist there would never be a Renaissance and golden period. Even though it is hard to be who we are born to be in today's world due to monetary reasons, we must stay true. Those who are rich will soon perish but those who create will live forever through the spirit of their art. When you make art,it is your baby, it is a piece of you and you owe it to yourself to nurture that. Art also allows us that time to find ourselves again and have in-spirit-ion.

I don't think it is a curse to be an artist. If you "truly" are such a person ,the joy of being able to create "quality" images of your innermost thoughts and passions far outweighs the limits of commercial and shallow emotional success.
To paint with vision and belief, to go beyond peoples comfortable zones, is a gift to be proud of.
Think positively - create emotionally.

Your right it is a very lonely road Oak.

My late partner Andrew used to love my work, but sometimes he would say that I loved 'art' more than him!

Was it that he was jealous? like it was a man, the hours I spent away from him and at my easel would at times torment him.

Yet when he spent hours driving in his Ferrari, that was OK!

As for the loneliness Oak, We need to be lonely for the peace that art demands from us, otherwise we could not show the real the real 'US' in our work.

Some days I feel like a Mandarin split in segments, lots of pieces to go around, but trying to find a piece for myself is sometimes hard when you have five kids and two cats.x

Greetings......

I agree with Lor that being an artist is both a blessing and a curse! Over the course of my life, I have had a few jobs away from and out of the studio. I despised those jobs and didn't last very long doing them. For me it has always been that anything which takes me away from or out of the studio for any amount of time gets the ax rather quickly.

I no longer care if I, or my work, is "understood". If my work does not speak for it's self by this time then I have been going down the wrong road for a bit too long. What does "get to me" in both the good times and the bad... is the loneliness!
